My Instagram feed is flooded with mouth watering food but I've never written any food post about my travels. If you love food, this post is definitely for you since I've done many research when it comes to eating overseas. Who wants to gain that extra weight when it is not worth your calories. So here's a list of food that i ate in Macau. Get ready. Grab your pen and pencil because you are going to note down whichever you think is worth going! ✔ 1) O Porto Interior RestaurantAddress: 259B Rua do Almirante Sérgio Opening hours : 1200-2330 What to try : African Chicken, Stuffed Crab, Serradua, Clams in White Wine Sauce and Duck Rice Worth : ❤❤♥ Sad to say, we did not try any of the recommendation dishes that i found online. I even wrote it down in my itinerary but we were there during lunch hour and there's a promotion going on. So we thought it was a good deal and ordering will be quick! Despite that, the grilled chicken promotion set caught my eyes and let me tell you this first, it tastes fabulous. Many people always describe a food as crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, i think this would be the most suitable phase to be use on this chicken. I really love it!! On the other hand, the spaghetti heavily rely on pure tomatoes so it's kind of sour to me. If you are here just to savor Portuguese/Macau food with tighter budget, O Porto Interior is for you. Assuming that you can splurge, make a reservation with A Lorcha ( they are recommended in most guide book yet many online reviews mentioned about the drop in standard, which is why i decided to give family business oriented, O Porto Interior a try.) **Both restaurants are featured on lonely planet. Link here 2) Wong Chi Kei 黃枝記粥麵 Address: 17 Largo do Senado, Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro Opening hours : 08:30-23:00 (daily) What to try : Shrimp Roe Wanton Noodles & Crab Congee Worth : ❤❤❤♥ According to a local, the standard of the food here was average. After hearing that, my high hopes for this, vanished. We went in just for a taste since many tourists wrote about it on their blog too but to our surprise, it is good, ok , real good! I love their shrimp dumpling. Even my picky mum love it too! She was so busy analyzing the ingredients in their wanton while we were busy eating all of it. The dumpling definitely add bonus points to their handmade noodle. Not only that, the soup isn't the kind that we expected. Not those with MSG but soup that are brewed for hours. What about their congee? Hmm.. It's kinda ordinary. The congee that we tried at the outer harbour terminal is way better than this in terms of fragrance and tastiness which is why i gave it 3.5/5. I even considered re-eating the dumpling as supper when i saw it at Central but no, i will not eat the same food twice. Why am i forever in dilemma. 3) Yee Shun Niu Nai Gong Si 義順牛奶公司Address: GF, 381 Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro Opening hours : 09:00~23:00 ( Mon-Fri) , 09:00~24:00(Sat,Sun) What to try : Double layer egg pudding (雙皮奶) Worth : ❤❤ If you have a sweet tooth, their Double layer egg pudding would probably receives a thumb up from you. But no, it will not come from me as i dislike sweet stuff. We ordered their double layer egg pudding (cold) and a stewed egg custard (hot). I would boldly say that the taste of the milk was kinda overwhelming although it was smooth and rich.. I think i would be better if we eat the hot bowl but it was too late. ..then, we also tried their hot stewed egg custard but it just taste like a sweeter version of chawamushi along with a mild sweet milk fragrance ( I preferred this!!). I had a friend who loves sweet stuff and her first recommendation to me was this place. Ultimately, this dessert shop depends on individual preferences. Just give a try, you might like it just like my friend :) 4) Food at a Local Market/ McDonaldDo not have doubt in this. A meal in their local market is a must-try since we traveled all the way here to experience their way of life! I'm fortunate enough to taste it without waking up early because mum is an early-bird hehehe. One morning, she brought home steamed Malay Cake, Egg Tarts, Salted bun/ Peanut bun (idk?), some you tiao and porridge. Some of their food wasn't to my liking except for their egg tarts and the bun that idk. Having tried the famous egg tart here, the egg tarts at their local market is way better than the KFC egg tarts we have back at home. That night, we actually decided to have Mcdonald as our supper since it will be our last night in Macau. I tried to make this into something that i do when i travel to a different country. Every McDonald outlet that i tried (Taiwan, Thailand, Beijing) did surprised me! Don't be skeptical about it, their meal specially cater to the locals. Serious. McDonald in Thailand includes lemongrass into their iced lemon tea!! I love that to the max. Oh god. 5) San Hou Lei Bakery Cafe (新好利咖啡饼店)Address: 13-14 Rua do Cunha Opening hours : 007:00-18:00 daily What to try : Bird's Nest Egg Tart and Fresh Milk Tart Worth : ❤❤❤❤❤ Stop scrolling and read this. If not, you won't be able to mark this down on your itinerary. You won't regret it because this is one of the top three Portuguese egg tart outlets in Macau. The another two are Lord Stow's Bakery and Cafe e Nata Margaret's. I didn't try Cafe e Nata Margaret's since many said they are opened by the husband and wife. Assuming that i tried all three outlets, my heart and soul voted for this San Hou Lei Bakery Cafe. Mainly because of their flakey-buttery pastry with their bird's nest and fresh milk filling!! I preferred this as there are lesser cream and more eggs in their special mixture. I don't think i will forget the taste of it unless i tried something that is way better than this, which is impossible. ( that explains why i gave it 5/5) Seriously. Mark down Taipa Village in your itinerary! (I've been here and coloane village too but was way too busy eating that there was no photos available for me to upload in the category area, so sorry) 6) Tai Lei Loi Kei Cafe 大利来记 Address: Taipa Village (roughly 5 mins walk from San Hou Lei) Opening hours : -unsure- What to try : Pork Chop Bun Worth : ❤❤♥ Pork Chop bun is available widely in Macau but no no no, i only wanted to eat this. Not from other stall, just this. I want to know the uniqueness of their bun that makes people share and blog about it. Therefore, i'm determined to try this, no matter what. We were so full after eating San Hou Lei that we just shared one pork chop bun among the three of us. heheeh. Luckily, there wasn't much crowd in the morning. ( Crowd might start from 2pm since their fresh chewy bun is available from 3pm onward) Our bun is kind of dry. We poured some chili sauce onto it. Much better. A bit of disappointment since it is not the type of fresh, juicy pork chop that i thought of. Perhaps, i'm too full to determine if it tastes good. Guess what?! They are opening a franchise in Singapore!!! I'm going to check it out when it opens soon. More updates from Here 7) Pastelaria Fong Kei 晃記餅家Address: 14 Rua do Cunha, Vila de Taipa
Opening hours : 10.00 - 19.30 (daily) What to try : Almond cookies with pork filling Worth : ❤❤❤❤❤ This century years old shop is so famous that it is being featured on CNN Travel. Once we saw that article, we noted it down and decided to make some purchase of gifts here. I have no idea why this attracts more crowd as compared to "Koi Kee" which has an outlet almost every way we go. Maybe tourist feels that Koi Kee is too commercialize. I do feel that way too and the reason why we did not make any purchase in that bakery despite sampling it. Taste of the almond cookies? - I've no idea. Mum tried it and shared with her friends and the feedback that we have received so far was strongly positive. I should have tried it too. Whyyyy didn't i just open my mouth and eat it. see la, wait for their feedback's and now, it was gone..
